Man's Best Friend

Of course, who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? I can't get the attraction of animal fighting/blood sports. I never will. Michael Vick might have been exciting to watch, but was not an effective quarterback. The plea, as the TV lawyers explain, might be better than going in front of a jury (especially this one). I am not a PETA supporter, and I don't like animals better than people exclusively. But it is a short walk from abusing animals to abusing humans. I grew up with two loving mutts (Boris and Maggie) and can't imagine how someone could be that abusive to a dog. Or a cat. Or any furry creature. I for one are tired of superb athletes who are coddled while those in charge do as they please. Even if you are not a fan of animals, the IRS might have an interest in this case, for even illicit gambling winnings are taxable, and income must be reported...undoubtedly it wasn't. Vick is just a gangster...

I agree with you 100% Ralph. What a waste of a human (if you can call anyone who does things like that to animals a human). Hopefully once Vick serves his time, the NFL won't be clamoring for his services and more important, he won't be treated like a hero.

I had to stop watching the story because it made me cry every time. Any cruelty, to humans, animals, makes me so upset, so I've stopped watching the news. Therefore, if blue jeans goes out of style, it is your duty to inform me of such travesty.

I'm appalled at the status we give to professional athletes in this country overall. Why should someone who plays a game make better money than someone who can save lives? I just don't get it. As for this guy, I think the punishment should fit the crime and he should get what he dealt out. Maybe if we had a more effective justice system these sorts of things might not happen as often as they do.

Great cartoon.

As for Mr. Vick -- how stupid can a man be? And his "friends" -- that he presumably bankrolled, and not just in the dog fighting arena -- jumped on the plea bargain bus in a nanosecond.

No, it's not sympathy I have for him... but, you may remember, we just went through something similar in Chicago with Tank Johnson.

Really.

How dumb can you be... to have it all and risk it for so little?

Moose,I agree. If he is able to play again, you can't stop a team owner from hiring him, but I'd hope not

Andreanna, the news is mostly bad. I'll let you know! BTW, Pandora and Cronus are outstanding animals!

Linda, the values out there are badly skewed. Im happy that Kid2 is a geek!

Curmy, we can only hope that NFL commisioner Goodell is consistent with his (I think) law and order message with Vick as with Tank, the punishment should fit the crime...

I was on Patti's profile! We are of one mind on the Vick issue...

I think both athletes and celebrities are given too much leeway, with too little consequences for what they do.

It scares me to think there are still fans out there supporting this less-than-human NFL player. For someone to do such despicable and barbaric things to defenseless animals and to have others making excuses for his actions is just outrageous.

I agree that if you can hurt animals, the next step is hurting people. In fact, when children start abusing animals, it is a huge warning of what's to come.

Slick Vick...should be thrown into a pool of pyrannas......

I agree totally. He's made a real ass of himself, lying that he had nothing to do with it and then changing his tune. He's washed up.
