Ruby Tuesday redux

Tuesday is here, and we offer another view in red. This being a wing walker on a classic plane, probably a Stearman.

This view evokes the style of entertainment in the Depression wreaked 1930s. I suppose it may be the dual views the spectator often grapples with: Do we admire the wing walker's skill in keeping his balance or are we looking for disaster? I hope for the former.

This was taken in 1985 at an air show in CT. I enjoy all the planes, at one show seeing the Air Force
Thunderbirds in their stunning precision with F-16s.
However, I really like to see the old birds in flying condition and old barnstorming flights of fancy like this.

Thanks again to
The Teach for sponsoring this gem (couldn't resist!), and do check out all the imaginative contributors in this endeavor.

Oh, what a fun post! I think I'll just watch from the ground. Love the stripey colors.

Great photo!
I really love the plane. I've never understood why anyone would want to walk on the wings though.

Have a great RT.

I would not have liked to be married to a Wing walker

Ah, the Thunderbirds - I used to watch them at many an Air Show when I was a kid growing up on one Air Force base or another. My Dad even had the opportunity to fly with them as Chief Mechanic but he turned it down because he didn't want to "live out of a suitcase" and leave my mom behind with us four kids all the time. Still, I bet he would have loved it!

Great picture for the theme!

Very cool photo. I'm not sure I could watch this live, though, I think I'd love to be brave enough or athletic enough to do something like that.

Planes, I love. Wing-walkers -- I agree, they've got to be mad! Interesting for a Ruby Tuesday post, I must say.

The Thunderbirds come to Eielson every summer and I have yet to go watch them. I would go to see this plane...not necessarily the dangerous stuff, but the plane for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ralph, this barnstormer is very refreshing today (and a bright red plane to boot).

I've seen the Blue Angels many times - they usually flew over my head on their way to Coney Island BUT I've never seen wing walking.

I think I'd be so anxious for the walker!

This is a great shot Ralph

Years back, I remember watching Road Rules on MTV and this was one of the challenges - wing walking. I remember thinking that I'd make a crappy team mate because no way in hell was I gonna do that!

Yikes! You wouldn't catch me out on a wing even if it was a ruby one! Happy Tuesday...

I've never been able to figure why somebody would want to junp out of or climb out of a perfectly good airplane!

It has been a very long time since I've seen a wing walker. I never want to see disaster with something like this. :)

Ralph, are you sure he's not velcroed to the top of the plane? Ha! Great Ruby Tuesday post! Thanks so much for participating. :)

From the safety of the ground spectators shudder hoping his death wish won't be fulfilled as they watch, yet they're unable to look away.

Stomachs clench. Breath is held. They wonder what kind of life he must lead if he only feels alive when on the edge of death.

Johnny Wingwalker is the name the world knows me by. Really I'm Clement Bruce, night janitor at the State Mental Hospital. Some say I'm crazier than the loonies I clean up after. I say I'm just lookin' for a way out of Bailyville. How I do it, well that's my never-mind.
