Voting Choices (reprise)

To all, I am happy that the previous post has created a thread has brought a reasoned discussion about the upcoming election. From both sides.

The crazy commenters are all over the place such as at
Politico.com. As a whole, the writers in thoee comments section are terrible, throwing incendiary verbal missiles with no particular aim but to incite the other side. I lamented the lack of civility...but too many do not care, and on all sides.

I had noted that I was interested in hearing many viewpoints, so I got my wish! The election may or may not go the way I might like. If not...I will respect the voters choice, and get over it if my choice doesn't. It is nice to live in a free USA where all can opine as they will. I did work with someone who was able to leave the USSR who told me that the Soviet police forced people to the polls, with only one choice. Having choices is always the best way.

Thanks go to the Teach, with the great Ruby Tuesday (and my Queens heritage), Jersey girl Dianne (I have some NJ in my past also :>), Sarge and Bee (And I promise to visit you more in Podunk and WPB). Not to forget Duchess Linda of Norwich, Leora in Highland Park, and Tired Mama Lynn. Along with Jim, Gattina from Belgique, Mountaineer Carletta (funny, I have W.Va. heritage in my past, too!) and Raven. And any other commenters . I am truly appreciative!

I think it's fantastic that people were able to express their opinions in a mature and responsible manner and be civil to each other.

Great job, Ralph! Perhaps you have a future as a peace negotiator??

The sad thing I see is a socialist president and a filibuster proof congress.........

I appreciate your trying to start discussion as opposed to what seems to be two sides yelling at each other and nobody listening. Lots of insults thrown about, too.

Speaking of socialism, my grandmother survived the Russian Revolution (and the starvation period that followed). She described Communism as "one was supposed to put everything in the pot, and only take out what one needed." It didn't work. We need to strive for that balance between rewarding those who work hard and taking care of those who can't (as opposed to "won't").

Ralph: I am thrilled you made your post. Patti had said you were unsure if you would or not. I am another example of what has happened to our country in the last 8 years. After September 11th, my industry (advertising) took a big hit and I lost my job. I freelanced when I could, but the money was slowing slipping away. I used up my retirement and my savings and then I was not paying my mortgage. I put my home up for sale in March 2005...If I had sucked it up and done so three months before, it probably would have sold in a few days, but I was trying to 'make it'.
The home stayed on the market for 18 months before selling at a price 25% less than it had originally been priced.
It was also a short sale as I could not cover my second mortgage.
A deal was cut with the second mortgage company that, six months after the sale, they decided they were not going to honor.
My only choices were to negotiate a deal or spend tens of thousands on lawyers and court costs.
I took the former.
Senator Obama is not talking to people like you and I. He is looking to tax those who are making a huge amount and are paying less than their share.
Senator McCain says he wants to give me $5,000 for a health insurance subsidy, but he will also tax the health insurance now, which is currently pre-tax dollars saving me MUCH more than $5,000/year.
The thought of Governor Palin having anything to do with the running of my country is frightening to me.
We will all go into the voting booth on November 4th and make our choice.
I do not see the socialism that some see.

I do see a chance for a change from the horrid policies of the last eight years.

I do see a candidate who is now trashing HIS President because of the polls..I do see that he and his running mate have fostered anger and hatred at their rallies and I am ashamed for it.

Thanks Ralph and I hope my comment was not too long.
