Shadow Shot Sunday - Snowy Shadows

It doesn't snow all the much in Ansonia (Southern Connecticut), averaging a slight 47 inches (119 cm) per season - this is not a real winter wonderland like the I-90 Snow Belt of Upstate New York. A snowy backdrop makes for a fine palette for shadowy shapes. So, Shadow Shot Sunday, hosted by Hey Harriet, lets us look with awe at shadows of all kinds. This is fairly early in the day after a mild storm and children Cameron and Allegra have cleared a path to the road (with a pair of teenagers, no one would expect us parents Patti and I to be moving snow. right?). Our house is at an ESE heading, so the southerly sun casts an impressive shadow from our neighbor's oak tree over the front yard. Further down the road is the shadow from another tree. As I get older, I am not enamored with Winter - except, that is, for the nice views on the morning after the snow. See lots of shadowy artistry at this fun meme!

You are right - snow makes for wonderful shadows! Great picture.

Snow does make nice contrast with shadows. It doesn't snow here, I've been thinking of heading up to mountains once the season starts just to get some good shots.

I never thought shadows could be so beautiful on snows, great and so creative.

delightful shadows - so long as I don't have to go out there in the snow

What a beautiful shot, Ralph. As you are anticipating snow, here in Brisbane (beautiful one day, perfect the next), we are experiencing glorious, warm weather. Still, I'd love a white Christmas for a change.

BTW... days like this will be a very cold day but hey! look around and its wonderful surroundings huh?

You captured the shadow perfectly.

Cheers...

Love how the shadows seem to reflect tones of blue on the snow! Quite fascinating!
At first, I thought one of the larger shadows was from a person waving! But then you mentioned the oak tree, so I guess not.
Snow and shadows always seem to enhance a magical ambiance of total silence!

I really love snowy shadows. My only experience of snow was just a few flakes falling from the sky, they melted before they reached the ground.

I see a couple of fellow Brisbane shadow shooters comments here already & I'm another who never experiences snow. So your photo is quite magical for me! I'm not a fan of winter, but winter here is probably quite laughable to friends on the other side of the big pond ;)

the only thing snow is good for is capturing the occasional pretty shot. nothing more, but i guess that may be as good a purpose as any.

The snow becomes a backdrop for so many intense sights. We're also part of the cold snap here in Florida. Stay warm.

WOW ... wonderful wintry shadows in the snow! I've shared Fall photos from my sister on the road in the USA today for My Shadow Shot Sunday this week.

lovely photo! We don't get much snow in Edinburgh, only occasionally do we get deep snow, so i always like to see other people's snowy photos!

Yikes! Not snow yet! lol
What a beautiful photo - I do love snow - we get enough here in Ontario. It's just that I can wait a few more months!

Perfect shadow shots. I only like the snow, watching it from the comfort of my home window. ;-)

Neat shadows, especially against the white snow!

I also love looking at the snow during night time when the moon is out. Unfortunately, my nose bleed every winter so that is the negative part hehehe..

Thanks for peeking at my RT entry and for the heart warming comment.

By the way, I am trying to generate some support for our daughter. We entered her into a Smile Contest, and was wondering if you could please vote for her (just once), the contest runs until October 31st. Your vote would be so much appreciated.

To cast your vote, please go to this link. Please look for Jillian Rylie Cottrill.

Thank you very much!

Hi Ralph,
Lovely shot. Soft and enchanting. Makes you want to pick up that snow and throw it in the air and wait for it to fall on you.
Wishing for some of your beautiful snow down our way.
