Shadow Shot Sunday - Tunnel visions

Shadow Shot Sunday is an always fun meme hosted by Hey Harriet. We often look for shadowy views in natural light, and they appear readily. With artificial lighting, the shadows can be illusory and indirect. Without specifically looking for them here, they appeared just like that. Here is a tunnel underneath the train tracks at the generally busy Union Station in New Haven Connecticut.

But on a Saturday, when the place is devoid of commuters, we note the details that the traveling public misses. The oval portal and the horizontal silver trim moves endlessly toward the far away light at the end of the tunnel.

This picture wasn’t staged, I merely pointed the device with the flash on, and pushed the button. The view is tilted as I supported the camera from the 'chair, and the eerie chartreuse glow appears on the bright trim. And shadows have resulted without trying. Artificial or natural light, shadows abound.

Like peering through Alice's looking glass, what adventures shall appear at it's end...a wonderfully claustrophobic shot, glad I don't have to commute!

Thanks for the pearls of wisdom, they are always welcome!

I love looking down the long tunnel! What a great shadow shot as always, Ralph! Have to admit though that I'm glad I'm no longer a commuter! I spent enough time in tunnels so I like seeing them from this vantage point!

Have a great weekend!

Nice shot Ralph. Everything in the picture leads to the end of the tunnel and the light.

I like this shot a lot! I like the converging lines as the tunnel disappears.

Awesome shadow shot! If only the regular commuters could see this image, they would never think of the tunnel as mundane again.

What an interesting shadowy world in tunnels. You got a great shot! I get claustrophobic in tunnels. Hard to believe it is free of traffic on Saturdays.

This is like peering through a telescope at dimensions of luminous shadows with an unnerving twist that it is all an optical illusion! Almost a sci-fi experience! Fascinating!

The tilting adds to the atmosphere. I am quite impressed though by the standard of the artwork that seems to be hanging from the walls.

A ghostly sort of shot. It must be the green glow. And figures would have spoilt this one.

What a cool shadow...the green really makes the shot mysterious doesn't it?!!

Very cool perspective. At first I Thought it might be an aquarium tunnel but with the blinds closed, so to speak.

What an atmospehric photograph. I love to see pictures of normally busy crowded places when they are deserted - totally different perspective.
Thanks for your comments on my post. All the best

I knew right away that this shot was taken underneath the tracks at Union Station in New Haven but it looks so much cooler than it does in person! That green light makes it seem like something out of a sci-fi film!
