Ruby Tuesday - Buckeye rubies

Ruby Tuesday and reminiscing is a natural combination for me.

The year was 1999, Gooma was staying with the kids, so Patti and I had an excellent 520 mile (one-way) adventure in a drive to steeltown Steubenville Ohio. Birthplace to Dean Martin, we visited my alma mater Franciscan University after a then nearly two-decade span since graduation.
The scanned prints show their age, but the ruby hue has not faded. The flowers on the island as you enter the Catholic school are arranged in the shape of a cross. I found it a dramatic entrance, brilliant manicured rubies. Nice touch for the visiting alumni...

The time we were there was at the tail end of the unusually hot and humid summer that year, so the hazy sky laden with moisture looked gray. The blurred ruby on the sign above the US 22 bridge over the Ohio River offered us a positive message, so we felt duly welcomed.

Random rubies reminisce...see many more rubies at Mary's fun meme.

Glad you had an opportunity to remember a great trip. Hmm, I think my German descended relatives called their grandma "ooma."

Neat memories, Ralph. It felt strange to me when I visited my alma mater but it sounds like it was a great experience for you!

A lovely manicured entrance indeed!
My college was spread along the railroad tracks of a small WV town. We didn't have an entrance. :)
When I cross the river next I'm going to have to see what the Ohio welcome sign looks like these days.

that is a beautiful entrance to the site. I wish my church had that kind of space in front of it for such a lovely display.

That's a pretty red cross there in the grass. Being on the grass adds much to the picture.
Happy RT! I have my NAPA car calendar for June plus. There is a petty blue Corvette.

Nothing like a faded old photograph to bring so many memories rushing back like it was yesterday.

I always enjoy sculpted gardens. We see so few here in Massachusetts.

Have a great week, Ralph.

Nice picture. I like the idea of using an old photograph, and also how the ruby holds up over time.

Some beautiful flower arrangement.
What did you study at the Franciscan university??
I do like reunions, and the perspective they give to life.
Make me feel kind of happy, even if I'm certainly not the most successful, I often feel the most blessed, by other standards.
I hope you feel the same, with your beautiful children and lovely wife.

I actually don't know much about Ohio except for the song, Banks of Ohio, and that is actually pretty sad.

Back in the days, the landscapes are better and hopefully cleaner!

Are the flowers still the same?

What about your old teacher? Still there? Some teachers are part of the furniture, they never leave.
