Shadow Shot Sunday - Yule past

1964, East Hartford
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is an awesome meme that has been hosted by Brisbane artist Tracy, and continues with a new team! It has and continues to be a fun meme to contribute to as I have since September 2009. Happily, it continues as Tracy steps down from the hosting duties. Always a great meme to enjoy, as we see shadows everywhere, and we anticipate and capture said shadows. Even in old scanned prints…

1993, Ansonia

Parents like to show off their children, a common place is the Christmas holiday cards. We take the digitized view to any mass retailer who converts into cards to mail.

It was not so easy to make a photo card in 1964 in East Hartford – maybe a family photo would be inserted into a bi-fold card. In those times, the one sided picture card was not considered.

In that era of new neighborhoods, salesmen would prowl the streets to solicit. Such as the Christmas card salesman/photographer. Mom thought the idea grand and thus captured all seven of us, and quickly those who could dress themselves (all but one month old Christopher) were to gather in their Sunday best for the photo shoot. Which was the 1964 card.

Naturally, when our kids were young cherubs, we did the same. Two examples that have been scanned (film was the medium in the 1990s) are in 1993 (Cam in the Snoopy attire) and Allegra thinks 1999 was the other, that being a bit blurry. But with shadows!
1999, Ansonia

It was always fun for us parents to capture and send the cards.

Of course, Allegra and Cam are big now, and bi-fold cards are what we send now…Happy continued shadow shooting in Queensland, Tracy!

It's only really now that we over here are sending personalised cards - there are various online sites that will use your photos to make cards (not just for Christmas - my son gets very cheeky cards for my birthday and Mother's Day!!)

This Christmas post has a delightful family warmth! The decoration round the images is lovely but the smiles lingers close to the spirit!

Ah, sweet memories of family and days gone by. I fear the post-mailed Christmas card may soon be a thing of the past, too. Pity.

Dear Ralph .. my goodness what would Christmas be without photos of the kids ? You have so many sisters ! I guess that is why you are such a sweet gut : )
And then your kids .. perfect !
Shadows are there hiding and smiling at the same time .. very cute !
I am trying to figure out how to get the new SSS icon for my sidebar.
You managed it .. now what is the secret? LOL

Such fun to look back on family photos such as these! For a number of years we included photos (printed from my computer) of our younger two along with the inside dogs of the time, two Rottweilers and a Beagle Mix. The dogs were much more difficult than the kids to capture!

These Christmas cards are gorgeous! It's a lovely thing to do and a great way to mark the years. Such a difference from the 1993 and 1999 cards too! I think your two children will appreciate these cards as they grow older too. Happy Christmas to you and yours Ralph!

These are so lovely Ralph! I love Cam's snoopy shirt! It was the first thing I noticed being a huge Peanuts fan :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend Ralph!

I really enjoyed the cards, Ralph. I remember 1964. In fact, I was just thinking about 1964 yesterday.

There's nothing like an old shadow to evoke nostalgia...

Many shadow-seekers say,
“Oh, the one that got away!”

Why are you so uptight, folks?
Can’t you take light’s little jokes?

Boy Ralph, those were the days huh...back when we believed in our government, never doubted our country's motives, easy times, simpler times, slower times. I look back at my old xmas' past with a sigh of happiness that I lived through such times, but fear the worst for my daughter and grandson's future...let's pray for change in 2012 for all our families sake!

Have a wonderful holiday!

Seven sure looks like a LOT of kids (and siblings)! But, I should talk-we have six in our family and it never seemed crowded. However, on Molokai, we did not have traveling salesmen or the chance to do one of these Christmas cards. I know my mom would've if she could. A lovely way to capture a special moment.

Family photos are a treasure, I now know, but when I was younger, I didn't care so much!

Yours are definitely keepers!

Hootie (on my masthead!). You sure have a good looking family. Of course I have told you that you and Patrick, my hubby, bear a strong resemblence as youth.
