Whimsical Windows - West Village Eatery

For Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, we look for portals and such of interest - or maybe even historic. I was not able to attend this fine eatery in Manhattan, but the always lovely Patti did. This was taken at a table by the courtyard of One If By Land, Two If By Sea in the West Village. The history shows this restaurant housed in a carriage house once owned by Aaron Burr (famous for being an early VP of the us, and more infamously his duel with Alexander Hamilton).

This view is great, history, nature and great food (I am told :). I am unsure if my wheelchair might be accommodated and sure it may be too pricey for me - but this is great seating for dinner!

Whimsical Windows - The Duplex

The weekly meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors compels us to look at unique architectural detailing any place, anywhere. The always lovely Patti captured this gem last week in New York City West Village of Manhattan, and this being The Duplex. A cabaret theatre that calls visually to anyone with this very unique entryway. She captured it with a phone, and the deep blue surrounding the sign showcases this very unique place...

Whimsical Windows - Sibling Skyline

Toby hosts the fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, and we scout around to find the many interesting detailing we find, in any era. Here is in the New York City, borough of Manhattan and its always impressive skyline. I believe this to be from a rooftop in 1961. It is my father (the family lived in Bayside Queens 1960-1963), and sister Aunt Terry visiting, and a visit often usually included a tour of the city. I do not know the building (at UPI where my father worked on 42nd Street), but the spread out city below is amazing. Always...

Whimsical Windows - A vertical vantage

Patti captured a quintessential shot of lower Manhattan skyline from the BQE
Toby hosts the fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where we showcase windows, doors and more..I have another capture of Manhattan from across the East River taken by Patti in December. She was taking in the scenery as I drove, navigating the very badly designed 1-278 BQE.

This is a great view of the island, the vertical and modern glass and steel towers highlighting the skyline of lower Manhattan. I did notice the words POP UP on a structure below us - and it appears that the buildings did. A fine capture of a quiet Sunday in NYC...

Whimsical Windows - Freedom

Patti's fabulous capture of the Freedom Tower in Manhattan, from the BQE in Brooklyn.
Toby is the host of the fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors - and I hope you have been able to dig out from your monstrous snowfall :)

Today, our son cameron who has landed a great job in New York City has moved to his new apartment today and three vehicles filled with belongings make the trek to his place for his move.

In our van, I was the driver and the lovely Patti chronicled our trip in pictures. Along the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (I-278), there are some great views across the East River toward Manhattan - and she captured this fantastic view of the almost completed Freedom Tower. From that worst of days in 2001, the new tower shows us that despite the evil that surrounds can never impact us if we have both resilience and hope. It seems to have a glow as it rises toward the heavens...

Whimsical Windows - The city that never sleeps...

That of course is the terminology of New York City, more specifically Manhattan Island. For Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, Toby's great architectural meme. This is from 1939, my father at age 11, and I believe by the docks along the Hudson River - perhaps on the famous Staten Island Ferry. The skyline is from well before the huge glass and steel edifices we now see. I have been advised that the building with the spire was then the Bank of Manhattan Building on Wall Street now the Trump BuildingThis is a link to the distant past, and no doubt then an impressive place to be when visiting from small town Ohio. Actually, it still is impressive...
