SOOC - Winter sky on fire

Happily it is the first day of Spring (and it is snowing again!), but we welcome the end of the preceding Winter 2014/2015. But not to say winter is without its charms - despite the cold, there is beauty to enjoy. So for Straight Out of the Camera (SOOC), the always lovely Patti captured a fiery sunset from our Ansonia home that looked warm at least. Only 2-4 in (5-10 cm) of snow today - a quick melt is hoped for...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Snowy sunset and shadow

I was returning home yesterday afternoon and upon pulling into my parking place in the driveway and saw a near sunset view and having only my cheap droid phone (check the odd curvature of the house), snapped this from the driver's seat. The glow of the sky allows for a post for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. A soft pastel glow illumines the cascading ice and creates a soft shadow Cold but quite attractive...

Tina's Pic Story - Beautiful

East Shore, New Haven Connecticut Harbor, 2003
Tina's Pic Story is back - its simple rules are we provide the photo to match the theme she kindly provides which this week is 'Beautiful'

Plenty of things offer beauty that we admire. For me today, it is a shot captured on the East Shore of New Haven Harbor. In a series of pictures that we took about 10 years ago, the nighttime is now filtering in...the view is a bit crooked as I tried to balance the camera from the wheelchair. Not a perfect photo in layout, yet the edge of night captures us as it rolls in. Perhaps the end of a perfect day!

Ruby Tuesday - Winter sky

Sunset outside our living room window...facing west-southwest, Ansonia. CT

As spring began last week, a picturesque pink late winter sky seems perfect for Ruby Tuesday. This bold pastel derives from the ruby, so the color is good. And with no leaves on the trees, the colo is not hidden. We who are tired of cold and winter cannot wait for spring...however, the cold days do have their nice points, and a great pink sunset is certainly one of those...

SOOC - Sunsets over the Sound

SOOC - Straight out of the Camera - brings us to a deck overlooking the New Haven Harbor and Long Island Sound. The sun is setting under a deck of stormy clouds that hang over the nautical scene. However, the golden solar orb setting over the horizon stands out far more powerfully than the dissipating and dark sky. Tomorrow will be a fine day as the unpleasant weather will have left the scene...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Scanned Sunset Shadows

Shadow Shot Sunday returns...the fun of scanning old prints is in the memories, yet do I remember the event? Here in a shadowy sort of, I think I recall the what, where and when of this view. The place is in the passenger seat of a Subaru GL hardtop, the place on Interstate 90, Massachusetts Turnpike between Boston and Worcester, the time late in 1981 or early 1982. Either year, it would have been taken with a Canon 50mm rangefinder and most likely a roll of Kodak ASA100 film. Given all that, the sun just falling over the treeline is dramatic and the hint of shadow falls across the westbound lanes of asphalt as the sun sets. Although my exact memory is not so clear, the barely edited print itself is in reasonably good shape...see more shadowy views from any era at the always fun SSS2

29 Days-Soft Sunset

The always lovely Patti captured this lovely sunset outside the back window. This sunset offers hues of pink and peach, offsetting the cold winter blue-gray heavens.

The soft pastels give us hope that the warmer days of Spring, to occur quickly - not tomorrow, naturally, but soon enough...
