Whimsical Windows - City Hall

Toby's fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors is back, and today's entry is the Ansonia City Hall.

The views were taken this morning as a bicycle festival was to start - as we awaited the phalanx of bicyclists who were riding in from New Haven, I rolled down Main Street to capture one of my favorite buildings which is City Hall. This is the original building facade, Opened in 1905, it looks substantial - yet almost graceful in its period lines...The door is inset far enough that an edit showcasing the door itself was too dark as it is inset far and coated in a dark stain.

So a closer view of the granite archway was included instead.

It is a great building although the wheelchair access was unavailable until the second addition (with elevator) was completed in 1997- now I can visit the beautiful interior too...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Seedling sprout

In the Ansonia Uplands, facing ESE
Along the garage, facing WNW

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back, and we look for shadows in as many places as possible - there is no telling where they may jump up at us...last Friday, my very old friend Mike arrived to pot tomatoes, peppers and more for us. Given my lack of mobility, it is a project that upon harvesting is much appreciated by those in our household (that is, all four of us :)

The side of the house by the garage is sunny all day in the summer - the place to grow sun ready plants like tomatoes and peppers. This year we are using 18-gallon (67 liter) storage containers purchased at the local Lowes store in Derby, With a blend of moisture trapping peat moss, topsoil and mulch, the summer salad will arrive soon...

A pot of basil and a smiling worm...
Peppers

Basil, a variety of peppers, lettuce and butternut squash were also potted. We know the sunny items will grow, it may be a bit warm for the lettuce and the vine-y squash may not take - bit that summer salad of tomato, mozzarella and basil will taste great in August and I hope to stuff the cubanelles around the same time...the shadows can be harvested now! Organic or not, shadows are great - so see the world of shadowy art at SSS2

Tina's Pic Story - Best of

Tina hosts the great photo meme Pic Story. The simple rules are for us are to respond to her weekly theme. This week it is The Best (of Pic Story), to celebrate the 52 weeks of this fun meme...

She further explains: The best of all your picstory entries or just the best of last week :) it´s on you!

I have been part of this for a mere 48 weeks - I like every post, but have chosen some of my favorite photos from my posts - although if I were to compile this next week, twelve different photos might be chosen...I hope this meme continues on and on, the fun is posting for every weekly theme she might think of!

Ruby Tuesday - Parade

Bunting on the Derby Public Library
The Stars and Stripes carried by the Mattatuck Drum Corps
Allegra in 1790, representing the Derby Historical Society

Ruby Tuesday 2 appears this week on Memorial Day in the US created to - a day whose purpose is to remember those who died in military service to the country. Naturally, the day has evolved into a day of parades too. We can never forget sacrifice, but it is a day of community too. This morning for us it was the Shelton-Derby parade. For rubies, there were flags, lights, stripes, girl and boy scouts and even Allegra heading northbound on Elizabeth Street in Derby....

Despite the pomp of the parade, we must never, ever forget the sacrifices made by many that secure our freedoms today such as the freedom of assembly at the parade...
