Ruby Tuesday Too - Subtle event reds
I have been away but am happy today to participate again in Ruby Tuesday Too - where any shade of red will do. On Saturday, we participated in the Wheel-a-Thon, a walk / wheelchair roll event. I have been a board member, member, employee and now contractor for the organization hosting the event, the Center for Disability Rights (CDR) in West Haven, CT - a cross-disability center for independent living. Prior to the start, we see reds all over, although not one dominating the scene: a guitar strap, a sign of the event's sponsors, a red umbrella highlight and the woman to the left with the red hair - she sang the national anthem (and very well too :). Many a ruby to admire...

Whimsical Windows - St. Augustine's
Toby hosts the architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, and we look around, sometimes incessantly, for subjects...Here is St. Augustine's Church in Seymour CT. I don't know its history, but will guess 1940-1950s as it has a classical shape and details (arches, stained glass) that evoke the days of yore. But make of a more modern brick instead of classical stone. Not so much austeure as simple and pleasing in design...

SOOC - Crossing the Mighty Mississippi
SOOC - Straight Out of the Camera - takes me back three decades to the headwaters of the long (2340 miles/3770 km) Mississippi River at Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota. Unlike the unpredictable and often dangerous waters downriver in places like Memphis and New Orleans, one can cross the river at its source safely, as a pair of then younger cousins do in August 1983. A lovely state of over 13000 lakes and lots of mosquitoes...
