Ruby Tuesday Too - Red Door

Anything historic often has a tradition. Why some traditions exist I cannot say, but some offer intrigue, beautiful architecture and perhaps a hint of ruby red. So for this week's edition of Ruby Tuesday Too, I am looking at Christ Episcopal Church in Ansonia, a lovely house of worship with the Episcopal red doors. It seems that there is a tradition of red doors, and a lot has been written about it...so I refer to this source with an interesting description. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful building opened in 1905 and the red doors are a nice feature...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Ansonia Public Library

Ansonia Public Library, 2015-10-10. Camera settings give wide angle look. Photo by Patti.
It is time for Ruby Tuesday Too, where we showcase that often arresting color red. I am offering an updated view of our public library in our small (19,000) city of Ansonia Connecticut.

The Ansonia Public Library was built in 1891-92. The exterior walls were constructed of red Longmeadow freestone from western Massachusetts. The foundation walls were constructed of granite from local quarries around Ansonia.

The architect was George Keller, renowned for his Civil War and military monuments, best exemplified by the impressive Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Hartford CT.

Here, details abound in this view from across the street, including its dramatic arched entrance and leaded glass windows. The interior is beautiful too, with plenty of oak, a stone fireplace and vaulted ceilings.

The library - was dedicated in 1892 but until the city finally approved an annual appropriation of $1,500 in 1896. Elected representation no doubt acceded to the wishes of the voters back then it seems, the public being more than ready for this impressive center of learning...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Ruby event

We look for ruby artifacts and such in homage to our favorite color for Ruby Tuesday Too. This view from yesterday was taken at 10th annual Wheel-A-Thon along Long Island Sound in West Haven Connecticut. This walk/roll is a benefit the nonprofit and cross-disability Center for Disability Rights. Red details abound in the signs, banners, flag and clothing. Here the singer sings the national anthem before the walkers and wheelchair rollers beginning their start along the course. This is a nice event for a nice cause and highlighting our favorite hue...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Appetizers

For Ruby Tuesday Too, we look for colorful, and perhaps tasty ruby red goodness. At my niece's wedding (Julie and Luis), this appetizer tray of fruits and vegetables has quite a ruby hue for the pre-dinner reception. Tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and grapes enhance the platter and leave lovely shades of red abound!

Ruby Tuesday Too - Crayola Candle

For the fun meme Ruby Tuesday Too, a celebration of the hue red, I am offering a look at a unique item. This is a jar candle surrounded by a series of crayons, many of them in variations of ruby. This was created as a gift by our daughter, obtaining her Masters in Elementary Ed. As a student teacher/intern, she made the cute candle, she made this for her fourth-grade cooperating teacher at the school where she was assigned. This is thoughtful, creative and quite ruby...

Ruby Tuesday Too - White Pizza Ruby

Normally we think of pizza as a red treat, covered in tomato sauce - a perfect subject for Ruby Tuesday Too. Yet here is an odd ruby, a white pie (mozzarella and Romano cheeses and garlic) with sun-dried tomatoes being the sole ruby on the entrĂ©e. Other reds include are the tablecloth and cabernet that nicely accent our table setting at Molto-Bene in Ansonia...and our dinner was delicious :)

Ruby Tuesday Too - Rum cake rubies

We lookout many items in our lives, but seem to be dawn to that arresting red color. So this week's Ruby Tuesday Too take me to the nearby town of Shelton (CT) and a new bakery/eatery Lighthouse Rum Cakes with a total of four rubies, sized largest to smallest: The awning, the'OPEN' sign, the patron inside and the exit sign over the door. I haven't sampled their products, but if there as tasty as the rubies, I'd rather not wait...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Fire Apparatus

Ruby Tuesday Too prompts us to find items in an arresting shade of red. So how about a restored early 1950s Chevrolet fire truck. With its ruby hue, this is eye-catching for sure, although its previous home base of Moosehead Lake, Maine made me a bit skeptical (moose residing in Maine? ), but a cursory search reveals there actually is a Moosehead Lake in western Maine, in fact a very large lake (40 miles/64 km Long) and a popular vacation area...at any rate, this cherry red truck is a fine sample of our favorite color...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Cool can and candle craft

The always lovely Patti has created a craft that fits nicely for the meme Ruby Tuesday Too - simple and easy and here adds a nice ruby glow to any tabletop.

Add one small tuna can, lots of spring  loaded clothes pins, a candleholder and a candle. It is not mandatory for the holder to be red - but why not?!

Ruby Tuesday Too - Cousins

We look for rubies all over for the meme Ruby Tuesday Too. And the red brick of a restaurant built in a 150 year old thread factory is a fine backdrop of two cousins, the six-year old cousin fixing the hair of her three-year old younger cousin during the event held that evening. Despite the blur of the pic, I would describe this scene as precious, cute or disarming...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Ruby cakes and crĂªpes

Ruby Tuesday Too allows us to find ruby red subjects anywhere we can. So we look to a story the always lovely Patti wrote last week about a business that is celebrating one year in business, Lighthouse Rum Cakes of Shelton CT. A red awning and the lighted LED OPEN sign (and delicious breakfast crĂªpe :) will do for today's RT treats!

Ruby Tuesday Too - Roses are red...

For this week's version of Ruby Tuesday Too, I am traveling back in time to 1991 when our daughter Allegra was a mere two-years old. She is peering at the photographer while being nicely framed by the ruby red roses in bloom. She is much bigger now, the fence and rose bushes gone. But the memories remain!

Ruby Tuesday - Grilled rubies

We look for reds all over for Ruby Tuesday Too - sometimes in restaurants. Here is a grilled vegetable entree. Mostly in a green hue (asparagus, eggplant, zucchini and olive oil), the topping of the roasted peppers adds the requisite ruby. Good looking - and good eating too:)

Ruby Tuesday Too - Summer Harvest

Ah, it has been an unusually cold Winter in the Northeast US, and we are tired of it. Not that I want time to fly by, so for Ruby Tuesday Too, let's fast forward to the August harvest of our potted tomatoes similar to these. Despite the frosty season we had, a yearlong dream is that basis Summer Salad of fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and basil with a light balsamic dressing and worth the wait :) So we await the warm weather harvest to commence!

Ruby Tuesday Too - Watercolor Class

It has been awhile, but I am happy to be back at Ruby Tuesday Too again. This week we showcase the always lovely Patti at a watercolor class taught by our wonderful artist Friend, Rich DiCarlo of the Valley Arts Council based in nearby Derby (CT). At the Derby Public Library, DiCarlo, these art classes are offered them free to young adult patrons. Patti is learning and enjoying the finer points of watercolor artistry...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Canyon Crossing

For this installment of Ruby Tuesday Too, I go back to a recent visit to see our software developer son who lives in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, and it was a nice visit it was.

On the way home, always lovely passenger Patti captured this ruby view with her phone - we were traversing north on the I-278 BQE, and I thing the setting sun to our left added to the red, the church and building above complete the ruby trifecta today...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Weedy autumnal foliage

Red is one of the predominately Fall colors that indicate that colder days are soon to be upon us with leafless trees to look upon. So for Ruby Tuesday Too, we look at our side yard and see fiery red leaves - not on a grand maple or oak tree, but some weedy tree providing seriously ruby red leaves. Generally, I would like these weeds cleared out, but will be happy to wait until Spring...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Local Cabernet

Ruby Tuesday Too appears mere hours from whwn Patti and I visited a small winery that is only 2.1 miles from our home - Sevino Vineyards in Woodbridge Connecticut. Being so close, Patti and I have finally paid the small winery and tasting room, and found a ruby that should work well - a 2013 Cabernet Franc (Patti's choice, I had the Bianco di Casa). So it was a nice autumnal day amidst the vines and changing foliage - with a ruby red meme subject as well...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Subtle event reds

I have been away but am happy today to participate again in Ruby Tuesday Too - where any shade of red will do. On Saturday, we participated in the Wheel-a-Thon, a walk / wheelchair roll event. I have been a board member, member, employee and now contractor for the organization hosting the event, the Center for Disability Rights (CDR) in West Haven, CT - a cross-disability center for independent living. Prior to the start, we see reds all over, although not one dominating the scene: a guitar strap, a sign of the event's sponsors, a red umbrella highlight and the woman to the left with the red hair - she sang the national anthem (and very well too :). Many a ruby to admire...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Fine Event Flapping Flag

Ruby Tuesday Too compels us to look for red, a lot or a little. For me today, I showcase the red stripes on a large flag flying from a Shelton CT ladder fire truck...and a poster that sits along the route. The event that hosted this was the local Relay for Life on Saturday to celebrate those who have survived (and those who sadly have not). As Patti is now a three year survivor, she walked laps with her Circle of Friends support group, clad in pink. The ruby thus flies high and deservedly so...
