Shadow Shot Sunday - Fathers, Kids, Shadows

Tomorrow is Father's Day, perhaps a faux holiday to some, but not to this dad! The weekly meme Shadow Shot Sunday 2 allows for father's day shadows where I found a couple that include myself and the each child - not necessarily of the same era, but shadowy at least :)

One is our first-born, Allegra, in her first days in our then Derby home, maybe a month old, January 1989. The other pics is son Cameron, where he was a college student at the University of Hartford at age 19 in 2010. Both have the requisite shadows, a dad and a kid. I like this holiday!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Father's Day Shadows

Allegra, 2nd birthday, December 1990
Cam, 2nd Birthday, November 1992
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 today is just before Father's Day in the USA. To some it may be an artificial holiday designed to sell, in non-equal measures, gifts of greeting cards and gas grilles.

It is a day to enjoy the best of being a day, the children. Naturally they are big now, our son a software developer in New York City and our daughter currently obtaining her Masters in Education. So it is hoped that I have imparted valuable lessons to them and that the will do what's right. Not an artificial holiday at all...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Plush Packard Panama

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns, and a subject such as an old car may be passé to some…obviously not to me! Last Sunday was Father’s Day and the car show and open house at the Shelton History Center.

It was not Just the chrome and size of this 1955 Packard Clipper Super Panama captured my attention, it was the color that brought me over. Not pink, nor mauve, I think it is a dusty rose. Under the slightly overcast gray humid sky and shadows, here it is a rich and understated hue, not at all garish.

Of course today one will not get colors like this and certainly not in two-tone. Nor interesting touches like the ships wheel emblem (for a Clipper ship). However as art, the overstyled and colorful cars were artistic rolling sculptures then…and now

Ruby Tuesday 2 - Long, longer and...

Ruby Tuesday 2 reappears, and we look for red in many ways: microscopic or massive. I have chosen the latter...at yesterday's Fathers Day car show at the Shelton History Center, I was (as usual) intrigued by the sight of chrome laden 1950s American barges with their styling excesses.
Especially when I stumbled into this, a massive 1958 Chevrolet Impala painted in acres of red. It was sooooo long that two frames were needed to capture its ruby goodness - there is plenty of it :) See more ruby goodness at RT2

Shadow Shot Sunday - Fathers past and present...

Father, son, grandson. Brigantine Beach, NJ, 1964
Dad and family, August 1996
Today’s Shadow Shot Sunday 2 arrives the day before Father’s Day in the US, Canada and UK. Some consider it an artificial holiday, but not I. Obviously, we like to show appreciation when we are kids for a dad (last year they grilled salmon, Ciabatta bread and vegetables – a delicious celebration :)

However, as a father himself, the pride and happiness of our children is to be celebrated too. From the past as a child to the present day, it is a fine holiday. Add shadows, and it becomes a perfect day!
