Shadow Shot Sunday - City Hall Concert

Lead singer Bryan Kearney prepares
Soulful Felicia wows...
Who doesn't love shadows and live music downtown? Certainly not I, especially on a beautiful Summer evening in the park by Ansonia (CT) City Hall! In the 2015 Summer Concert Series hosted by the Ansonia Cultural Commission (I being the chair), this week's music was provided by The Bernadettes, a premier club band in the state.

Thus, for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, the shadows and music combine for a stylish post of sun and sound. Covering an eclectic mix of the '60s (classic Motown and soul), the '70s (Earth Wind & Fire, Disco era), I know their songs from a formative age and love them still - as does the band's large following. A very fun event...

I captured a few video's from wheelchair height - the cinematography leaves a lot to be desired...but not the sound!

September, Earth Wind & Fire, 1978

Signed Sealed and Delivered (I'm Yours), Stevie Wonder, 1970 (and to almost give away my age, I had the '45 single in 9th grade :)

Shadow Shot Sunday - Summer Soul

Wednesday was another of in Ansonia's the Summer Concert series. As the music began at 7:00 PM on this beautiful evening, a favorite lighting effect from the late day sun falls upon the scene. And leaves a perfect set Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

The pics on the top have an orange-yellow hue on the sound check, performance and setup. The band is The Bernadettes, a New Haven based Soul/R&B/Oldies band that offers a fabulous performance an eclectic mix of soul and shadows. Patti captured the photos and the concrete dance floor was soon filled. A great way to end the day...I had a bit of space left on an old Flip camera and was able to capture the band singing Mr. Big Stuff, Jean Knight's 1971 hit. I was in tenth grade all those decades ago - I'll let the reader guess my age with this info - I'd probably never admit it otherwise :)

Shadow Shot Sunday - Tuesday Concert in Derby

Shadowy singer and saxophonist
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back - we eagerly looks for shadows to fall and drape themselves over as many appropriate shadows as possible - and we are able to find and harvest when found...The time was last week, and the place was nearby Derby on the city green by the gazebo for the free summer concerts. Today the really fun act 'Dr Ya Ya's Dirty Rice Revue', Connecticut musicians that play songs by New Orleans artists and songwriters (we know by tune if not title)

Well defined early evening lighting
This was not just a warm and humid evening of a highly energetic and fun music (an improvisational R&B) on a small town green, there were also late afternoon shadows all over the pavilion and band...what better than this for (1) free and (2) SSS2?

This old song was played by Dr YaYa in a similar raucous style: Sea Cruise, by NOLA songwriter Huey 'Piano' Smith and artist Frankie Ford
