Whimsical Windows - Milling about

For Toby's Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, we look at interesting portals and at other architectural details of note - perhaps including doors, windows and...blades? Here we do - there are windows on this Paris landmark captured by the always lovely Patti. The famous windmill at Moulin Rouge, shapely and colorful, with gold tinted windows upstairs. I was advised that this sits in the red light district, and it would be better to travel in a group should you go beyond the landmark - which I would not attempt, thank you :)

SOOC - Tricolour in the Mist

Daughter Allegra captured one of my favorite pics ever - even isn't one of hers. So I am making it the subject for Straight Out of the Camera (SOOC). It was taken in Paris in February 2004 on a cold and gray day, nearly devoid of color...except for the French Tricolour flying proudly on thee building to the left. In a sea of gray, the simple red, white and blue stands out very well!

Shadow Shot Sunday - More Happy Birthday

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns this week the day before the birthday of my two favorite ladies, Patti and Allegra. That the daughter and mom celebrate their birth on the same day is amazing, the firstborn had a due date of December 22 but chose to wait a week for Patti's birthday. As I see it :)

The photos may have been posted before. However, I like them, especially the mom and newborn just from the hospital on 1 January 1989, and the Paris school trip. Happy Birthday ladies, and a happy two years for SSS2!

Tina's Pic Story - Of Interest

A familiar landmark. Taken by Patti, 2005
Tina's fun meme Pic Story is back, and as usual, she provides the theme - and we comply with pictures. This week, the theme is Interesting...in this photo, without saying what it is, we know what it is. It is, of course, the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Taken by the lovely Patti years ago, this massive steel tower is big (324m / 1,063 ft tall) - yet with the evening lighting, the heavy steel looks almost like lace...so delicate. A nice and interesting visual effect as it reaches the sky!

Whimsical Windows - Urban pyramid

The entry pyramid at the Louvre in Paris. Photo taken by Patti, April 2005
Toby hosts the fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors - we look around at many details that let the light in. Here is a famous glass pyramid that was captured by the always lovely Patti while in Paris in 2005. It of course the entrance to the Louvre, officially Pyramide du Louvre at the Musée du Louvre. I like this addition to the classic palace of art. Granted its style is modern (with its 673 panes of glass) - however, its shape that goes back millennia and thus much farther back than the museum...one of these days, I and the wheelchair will visit the City of Light - this has to be amazing in person...

Tina's Pic Story - Spiky

Statue of Liberty/ Statue de la Liberté in Paris, April 2005
Tina's Pic Story is back, the rule simple: we provide the pictures to match with the weekly theme she kindly provides. This week's theme is pointed or spiky...either Patti or Allegra took this in Paris and the familiar silhouette of the Statue de la Liberté replica on the L'île aux Cygnes. The spikes are seen on the crown of the monument to liberty, while the Eiffel Tower in the distance has a bit of a spike on top also. It looks to be near sunset and the raised arm holds its torch, a beacon still to liberty...

Tina's WW - Flag in the Mist

Our daughter caught this in Paris...what I like best here is the gray morning mist shrouding all but the Tricolour flying proudly above it all...See Tina's WW

Whimsical Windows - Champs-Élysées in sequence

Toby as always hosts the fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where we look for portals of style, interest or whimsy - and not necessarily in that order...

This is during a high school trip, Allegra the 10th grade student, mom Patti a chaperone, the place along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris. The camera date stamp shows 19 Feb 04 at 11:39 (not adjusted from home).  As I understand it, Allegra and a friend were allowed to sightsee minus the entire group, and she took a sequence of photos  that feel like stop motion along the stylish street. I like the feeling of motion in that one minute - cool. See Toby's meme for more portals of cool...Happy 2013!

Tina's Pic Story - Parisian Garden 'G'

Garden No 1...par Patti
Garden 2...by Patti

Tina's Pic Story arrives this week, and she has given us our assignment, offer pictures to match the theme, which is the letter 'G'. Given that, how about gardens? And better yet, how about in Paris?

Garden 3...by Patti
Garden 4...par Patti

Patti and Allegra have been to Paris twice, and on the second trip in the early spring of 2005, the blooms were beginning. Patti is not sure where these gardens were in the City of Light - no matter, the flowers are beautiful - and the theme has been met!
