Shadow Shot Sunday - Parade prancers and ponies

My subjects for this week's meme Shadow Shot Sunday 2 were taken in our small city of Ansonia Connecticut at its annual Memorial Day Parade. A delightful day of modest temps (74ºF / 23ºC) and low humidity made it a fine day to march and/or watch. And what makes for a crowd favorite other than the majestic and docile equines who marched? The horses and riders were as one, as each horse and pony received copies applause from every spectator - and left nice shadows along Main Street too...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadowy horse (of course)

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back as Patti and I visited Locket’s Meadow Farm, a horse farm in bucolic Bethany CT. We attended a ceremonial signing of a law by the Connecticut Governor, an “Act Concerning The Liability of Owners and Keepers of Domesticated Horses, Ponies, Donkeys, and Mules”, a response to state Court rulings that horses have “a vicious propensity."

All that said, I like horses, gentle giants that photograph well at wheelchair height - and on a sunny day, can make for shadows. Horse people are very nice as are the horses - and here, will happily eat grass from a hand of a little girl - very cute! And I learned something - the meshy hoods they wear protect the equines from the scourge of pesky horseflies. Thus they may graze as we admire their gentle nature…

Check out Patti’s New Haven Register story and a great photo gallery of the event.

Shadow Shot Sunday - Equine event

How can a child (and his/her mom) resist?
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back, and the shadow hunters and huntresses look (and we always seem to be on the prowl) for shadowy elements for capture and sharing. Today it is the street fair Derby Day a few weeks ago, and attraction perfectly suited to kids was the horse and pony rides. What first captures attention is JC's Pony Party mascot, the smiling horse on the sign that elicits from all a smile :)

Although she barely fits in the saddle, Charlie Horse gives a smooth ride
Gentle is the operative
Of course, the horses and ponies in this endeavor are quite gentle and seem aware of the precious cargo riding atop, and follow the equally gentle commands of their handlers. Note that the city name on the tall equine - Derby - how apropos! Not to mention the stars and stripes also painted on his flanks...
The horsies are the actors that work well on their stage, which is a open and empty grass lot. A true venue for actors with hooves...
