Whimsical Windows - Obsidium

Toby hosts the always fun Whimsical Windows-Delirious Doors. Today's subject is in our town of Ansonia (CT) and is known locally as Obsidium - an office building now, an antiques store previously.

The structure originally housed the Ansonia Savings Bank. The style is neoclassical Greek, and ornate in detail, especially in its
columns

Its style suggests strength and permanence, just what you hope to see as a bank. Above left and right windows are inscribed 1862 (when it was chartered) and 1900 (the year it opened). In 2006, the shop was closed and the building was restored. It's a real asset to upper Main Street and a worthy addition to this fun meme…

Shadow Shot Sunday - Old vs Modern

Old mechanical vs New Digital
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 reappears, and we are always on the lookout for shadows. expansive to small, normal to not so. Like today.

At our local art venue, Gallery@ 37 in Derby, there is an exhibit opening this month referred to as The Art of Futures Past: A Steampunk Exhibition. Patti notes: "Think retro, think steam-powered (before electricity), think unique contraptions and you have the formula".

We don't really have anything that suggests Victorian era modernity. So I decided to create something that maybe bridges the eras, such at the old metal tools, solder, fasteners and machined parts that clash with the sleek MacBook laptop.

No Assy. Req'd
Well, I will defer to the opinions of others as to what constitutes serious art.

However, shadows that follow the shapes are all over. The light fixture adds reflections and shadows too. show up all over the place.

So, shadows act as an artistic medium too...The edited picture will be placed in an old style frame for exhibit. I am not sure what art ought to be to a serious non-artist, except that it has been fun...

Tina's Pic Story - Sleep

Allegra leaves the hospital for her new home in Derby CT 01/01/1989
Tina's Pic Story arrives with its simple suggestion - we provide the picture (up to 1000 words) and Tina provides the theme - this week it is sleep-schlaf.

The old saying is that we should never wake a sleeping baby. So firstborn Allegra was captured in her sleeping pose - and she arrives home for the first time on New Year's Day. Warmly dressed, she lounges in her seat in the family Nissan. She is sleeping peacefully this day (but not so much on her first night at home :)

Ruby Tuesday 2 - Speedy Chevrolets

1962 Impala SS 409
1967 Malibu SS, 427

Ruby Tuesday 2 arrives with retro rubies captured when they were not moving....

In the 1960s, hot were endowed with speed. The manufacturer thus added little badges to let the world know that you had hardware the other guys didn't have. The little die cast and ruby painted signs from 1962 and 1967. Both vehicles were immaculate restorations, and since I really like old cars, I saw the potential for a post!
