Whimsical Windows - Shorefront Abode

Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors returns and my subject today represents a style of living that appeals to me (if I had the $ to do so, that is :)

This was taken on a 'Duck Boat' tour of Hyannis Harbor on picturesque Cape Cod. This sits on a fairly secluded piece of land that is away from the big marina on the harbor - near, but just far enough away. And with no dock, uninvited nautical visitors cannot arrive unannounced either...

Nothing extraordinary about the design apart from the lighthouse. But this setting, away from the ubiquitous Nantucket/Vineyard ferries and assorted yachts, is to me waterfront living should be, quiet and almost away from the oft usual frenetic pace of life!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Sandy Seashore Shadows

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns, and although summer is not officially over, it feels like it may be (despite the warmest seasonal temps in New England all) year.

So I return to 2002 and the first vacation we had a first generation digital camera (check the date stamps :)

The shadowy theme was obtained at Craigville Beach on Cape Cod. By the shores of Nantucket Sound, the grainy sand, plentiful salt water, lots of sun and eroding sandcastles add to the ambience of shadowy memories...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Wheelchair Putt

I hope the ball cleared the obstacle on its way to a hole-in-one...
Ruby Tuesday Too is back, and I have found an old ruby scene, perhaps peripheral to the entire scene - but red nonetheless. The time is in the last decade, maybe 2004, the place Main Street Mini-Golf emporium in Hyannis on Cape Cod, the subject myself. I like this place as the old-fashioned putt-putt course was accessible to my then Invacare power wheelchair. Kind of like the an expensive rental of a private golf cart at a nice country club. Thus I could putt away with confidence if not the low score...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Cape Cod Cone Confectionary

Four Seas, Centerville MA
Ruby Tuesday Too is back with the simple proviso: a little or a lot of red - I am choosing the former today. Neon red usually jumps at us at night and we notice. On an overcast day near the seacoast, it is not always so noticeable. Here a crop, there a crop...then the ruby is easier to spot. The place is the Four Seas in Centerville Massachusetts. No frills, but as good ice cream we had on Cape Cod. With a dash of retro ruby neon to enjoy along with the frozen treats :)

Ruby Tuesday - Bear sightng

Ruby Tuesday 2 returns and as I am not thrilled with the past weeks snowy landscape, the warmth of Summer past I where I'll drift off to today...

Awhile ago, a vacation pose by our son at a putt-putt golf course where he poses with a course hazard, a mighty bear, Cam doesn't seem scared. See sensational seasonal or serious rubies at RT2!

Whimsical Windows - Water's edge

Cool home on the harbor in Barnstable, Cape Cod
Toby hosts the fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where we look for portals and architecture of note. This is not our home, however certainly one I would not mind residing on a summer holiday. This view was captured by one of our children as the took a Duck tour around Hyannis Harbor on Cape Cod. What appeals is its location on a quiet harbor, big windows with expansive water views and with the light house presumably offering a look toward Nantucket Sound. Undoubtedly out of our price range - at least we can all dream :)

Shadow Shot Sunday - Polar opposite of...polar

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns one week after our historic Blizzard of 2013, and because of this week's snow and chill compel me to revert to vacations past where escape from the heat (and no snow), the polar opposite (couldn't resist :) of what we have now. Where the cooling water is what we seek, especially children on vacation on Cape Cod, 2001 (L) and 2006 (R). At least the snow is melting ever so slowly these days...

SOOC - Beached

SOOC - Straight Out Of the Camera - takes us back to the past decade and daughter Allegra exiting the waters of Barnstable's Craigville Beach on Cape Cod. Given her smile, the bobbing on the float in Nantucket Sound was a success...

Tina's Pic Story - Vacations

Tina's Pic Story is back with its simple rule: she provides the theme, we supply the photos. The theme this week is vacations...I am going back a generation and two, and we see our daughter at the water's edge on Cape Cod, and a sibling of mine quite awhile ago at high tide in Brigantine NJ. For kids, work is play, and on these vacations, the children are very hard at work...

Whimsical Windows - Cape Lighthouse

Toby's fun meme Whimsical Window / Delirious Doors is back, and I revert back a few years, The photo taken by family member Allegra, from the back seat of the family van on vacation. The place was on the sandbar known Cape Cod, the Chatham Lighthouse

This is the third of the original Chatham structures, built in 1881. It is still a US Coast Guard approvedlight, and has been updated to 2.8 million candlepower aerobeacons. Despite the modern updates in brilliance, its shape and style are classic - still.

We actually took a vacation drive one day to look at lighthouses, foregoing the crowed beach for the afternoon - vacation and learning are a great summer combination....

Whimsical Windows - Vacations almost over

Toby hosts the delightful Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where portals are the destination. Today I offer a digital print from 2003.

We are at our vacation motel, the Hyannis Inn, right in the middle of touristy Main Street on Cape Cod. The motel pool is inside and under cover out of the direct sun. The kids loved to play in the pool there as we do not have one at home. I chose this view to post as the windows are not so whimsical - but daughter Allegra has that satisfied look that all is fun in the water

Ah, vacations...we took more of them until the kids went to college. So, staycations are the rule these days, alas...

Tina's Pic Story - Along the fence

Kalmus Beach, Nantucket Sound, Cape Cod MA
Tina's Pic Story is back - she kindly provides the weekly theme, we provide the picture. Today it is "Along the Fence'. The beach is subject to erosion, so often as it is here, the grasses and storm fence are planted beyond the beach so that sand is not returned to the sea during a storm - it keeps the sand on the beach (and more of it between our toes :)

Whimsical Windows - Stuffy service

Toby hosts the fun weekly meme, Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors. In this, we look at portals of style, elegance or maybe even mirth.

This is the pâtisserie  La Petite France on Cape Cod. At the door, there is the stereotypical and stuffy maître d’hôtel, nose in air.

However, skip the pretense and enter for a crusty baguette, warm, crusty and fresh. A breakfast to enjoy. Despite the haughty host, we are intrigued. The nose in the air is merely an act...

Tina's WW, 29-29 Days - Not my neighborhood

Tina's WW brings us his is not where we actually live - but we can all dream for a view from our front doors like this! Also, it is Tina's 29 Days on day 29 - thanks for this February fun!
The Atlantic at Orleans, Massachusetts, on the 'hook' of Cape Cod...I could get used to this!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Sandy shadows max and min

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 arrives for us on a gray day with cold rain. Thus, I showcase summer shadows. Such as in days of yore on Cape Cod. First is the max shadow view taken by our kids on a Duck vehicle. Beyond the stylish houses, shadows fall while wavy reflections bob on the briny waves. This is an attractive and very nice neighborhood...
Now, on the spacious and barely occupied Kalmus Beach, there are shadows to be found.

We have to look hard to see them. And they appear under the slender beach. Under a few blades of grass, feathery shadows fall about the soft Atlantic sand. These shadows are tiny, so no protection for the humans who forgot to apply sunblock...See more shadowy art at SSS2...

Tina's Pic Story - Briny 'B'

Tina's Pic Story is back this week, and we adhere to the simple and basic premise: We provide the pictures, she thoughtfully provides the weekly theme. This week is the letter 'B'

For this theme, what can be more in tune with that letter than the Beach?

This could be a perfect B, as on the left I am seated on the beach wheelchair, on the sandy Beach, with the kids floating above the Briny saltwater Nantucket Sound. In one of our favorite towns on Cape Cod, that being Barnstable. I am in a beach wheelchair, under a umbrella.

I do wish it were summer!

Tina's Pic Story - A walk in the park

The great meme, Tina's Pic Story, is back. The idea is as it has been-we provide the pictures, she provides the weekly theme, which this week is a walk in the park.

I go back to Cape Cod in 2004. This is a small park in Hyannis that hosts a memorial presented by the country of Korea as a memorial for the Americans who assisted them in their war for independence. I roll up the walk on the left – daughter Allegra in red is walking alongside, as we are on our way to inspect the monument.

This is a quiet place with beautiful flowers planted amidst the green lawn. It may be a bit somber for a park, but quietly moving around nature is relaxing...See Tina's meme for more walking in more parks!

Ruby Tuesday - Running

Ruby Tuesday (2) reappears, with the only proviso that the post include a lot or a little red. An easy rule to follow, especially when a bold hue can brighten the scene immeasurably...

Today, I revert to my archives to the year 2001, the place a quiet Nauset Beach in Orleans Massachusetts, at the 'elbow' on Cape Cod. This beach is this day sitting above an unusually calm Atlantic Ocean.

The view is mostly bland with the sand in tan, the ocean in a briny blue and the sky a misty gray.

The color arrives courtesy of then 10 year old Cameron, trotting toward the photographer - clad in RED! The stark ruby contrast to the bland is readily apparent in the shirt. And a happy kid on vacation at the beach as way far from bland! Thanks for hosting RT, MMT!
