Shadow Shot Sunday - Steeple Shadows

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back, and I am looking at shadows that fall around the steeple and building of our church, the 1st Congregational Church in our neighboring town of Derby. Built in 1821, it fits the mold of the white Congregational church in the center of a New England town. The shadow here were probably taken in Winter and Spring 2005 after a restoration of the building and cupola base of the steeple. Plenty of intricate shadows up there - the view to the front door leaves us with shade covering the sanctuary. A New England tradition still...see shadowy art, spiritual and otherwise at SSS2

Tina's Pic Story - February Blumen/Flowers

Tina hosts the fun meme Pic Story in which we match our pictures to correspond with her chosen weekly theme - which is February Blumen/Flowers. For today, I go back to 2011 and a bouquet of flowers sent to us after Patti's successful surgery. I don't know what the varieties were in the arrangement - however, their beauty with the outdoor lighting (or flash :) falling over them is certain...nice theme!

Ruby Tuesday - Slight reds in a sea of green

Ruby Tuesday 2 returns for the week as I return back to last summer in the warm Ansonia Uplands. The floral growth leaves is with leaves of green. However, a little red shows up in the Stop sign, the house next door and if we stretch the definition of ruby slightly, the pink flowers. Little ruby, warm memories...

Whimsical Windows - Seminary

Toby is the host of the great meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors - we look for architectural gems in portals and otherwise. Today is a late summer look at the St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield Ct. When our children were in the University of hartford, this olde world building was on the way home fro campus, perhaps 1-1/4 mile/2 km from the campus. One day I drove up from the road and saw something that feels as if it dates back more than a couple of centuries although this complex was actually opened in 1930. A classic European look, a great building in any era...see more portals at Toby's excellent meme!

SOOC - Sun, surf and sand

Surf casters, Atlantic Ocean, Jensen Beach Florida, 1 Jan 1981
SOOC - Straight Out of the Camera - takes me back again to the world of film...and the sunny surf of Florida in the wintertime. The time is New Year's Day 1981 in Jensen Beach. The surf casting fishermen are enjoying the 71ºF (22ºC) southern warmth. This view was a stark contrast to the next morning's flight arrival in Hartford where 2 inches (5 cm) cm of snow had fallen the night before and the temp was a cold 16ºF (-9ºC). Stark indeed, the Canon 50mm rangefinder creating a view of relaxing in the warmth...
