Whimsical Windows - Sunshine State Sunburst

On the way to West Palm Beach on a Delta Tri-Star, Dec. 23, 1980
Toby hosts the fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where we look for portals of interest. Last week I unearthed and scanned 41 prints from a trip to Florida to visit friends in December 1980.

This window view was taken on a Delta Airlines flight somewhere over the Atlantic coast of the Sunshine State. Time has not been kind to this print, so I edited in into black and white - however, the sunburst that peers around the edge of the window is equally bold in monochrome or in color...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Surf + Sun + Sand = Shadow

I take a glimpse of the waves on the Atlantic in my walking days...01/01/1981
The Intercoastal Waterway
The subtle reflection in the tidal sands
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns on a sunny Spring Saturday today up north, warmth arriving after the conclusion of a snowy and cold winter. However, one can avoid the cold of winter by traveling to the Sunshine State of Florida where a cold day is not all that cold to the snowbirds who visit, as I did in 1980. Recently, I located quite a few film prints, and re-scanned them last week. Granted the primitive Canon 50mm I used back, and given the age and lack of proper storage of said prints, the quality of the scans is so-so. But good enough to rekindle fun memories of a fun trip...

Whimsical Windows - Austere in Paradise

Toby most graciously hosts the fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors. Today is an architectural oddity ins style...on Saturday, my daughter found am old photo book from 1980 which chronicled a vacation trip to visit old friends in Florida. And while scanning photos, I found this. A church, and what I find so different is the plain style - not New England Puritan and no Spanish influences one might expect in the Sunshine State. Yet its plain shape is most appealing to me. With nothing ornate to distract us, we can focus on the one true God alone. Which makes this such a lovely building...

SOOC - Sun, surf and sand

Surf casters, Atlantic Ocean, Jensen Beach Florida, 1 Jan 1981
SOOC - Straight Out of the Camera - takes me back again to the world of film...and the sunny surf of Florida in the wintertime. The time is New Year's Day 1981 in Jensen Beach. The surf casting fishermen are enjoying the 71ºF (22ºC) southern warmth. This view was a stark contrast to the next morning's flight arrival in Hartford where 2 inches (5 cm) cm of snow had fallen the night before and the temp was a cold 16ºF (-9ºC). Stark indeed, the Canon 50mm rangefinder creating a view of relaxing in the warmth...

Tina's Pic Story - Azure

Intercostal Waterway near Stuart, Florida, Dec. 1980
Wetlands near Jensen Beach Florida, Dec. 1980
Tina is back with the fun weekly picture meme Pic Story. Simply, she thoughtfully provides the theme which this week is azure. To me, this is a color that fits the waters of Florida and a trip there many decades ago. The inland waterway and the swamp have azure blue waters that have remained while scanned from the old prints. A lovely color and a great subject this week!
