Whimsical Windows - Sunshine State Sunburst

On the way to West Palm Beach on a Delta Tri-Star, Dec. 23, 1980
Toby hosts the fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where we look for portals of interest. Last week I unearthed and scanned 41 prints from a trip to Florida to visit friends in December 1980.

This window view was taken on a Delta Airlines flight somewhere over the Atlantic coast of the Sunshine State. Time has not been kind to this print, so I edited in into black and white - however, the sunburst that peers around the edge of the window is equally bold in monochrome or in color...

SOOC - Takeoff

A delta-winged aircraft takes flight from the bonnet of a 1955 Chevy Bel-Air...
SOOC - Straight out of the Camera - presents us with art from the 1950s. In the case of vehicles produced in the dawn of the Jet Age, the feeling of speed was everywhere...even on the hood/bonnet of American cars. How about a hood ornament that looks like a jet plane leaping into space. Like an aircraft carrier, it has the feeling of zooming off into space. From a car - a silly premise in theory, yet quite dreamy as it lifts into space...style over substance? Absolutely, thank you!

Tina's Pic Story - From above

Tina hosts the fun Pic Story where we try to meet in picture the weekly theme she provides, which this week is from above...I am not certain how far above one must be. so, in view (1), the view from above was captured from the flood control walkway above the Naugatuck River - perhaps about 20 ft (6M) above the surface of the water. If not high enough, perhaps the other shot from a 737 much higher up. Both from above I'd say...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Aerospace place shadows

Office Buildings at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft from 1000 ft, East Hartford, CT, August 1984
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 reappears, and given my recent scanning frenzy I found this view that transports me back to August 1984 seated in a single engine to Piper Cherokee. I was invited in my walking days to take a ride with a pilot acquaintance.

At this point, we are at about 1000 ft (305 M) flying over my then employer, big jet engine maker Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. In the foreground is the building where I worked in purchasing. Normally filled with cars, this was a Sunday with most workers away. Outside shadows and cockpit reflections emanate...

We are about to make a 180° turn to land on Runway 2 at Hartford's Brainard Field. On this warm day the workplace looked and felt way different than Monday to Friday...

Whimsical Windows

B-24 'doors', dad and Cam...
Toby hosts the fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where we look for portals of seriousness or mirth...these pictures are taken from film prints from 2001 at the New Haven airport and it was a static display of WWII bombers. These were taken at or inside a Consolidated B-24, produced in 1943 and restored in the 1990s.

Allegra at the 'window'
Above, then 12 year old Allegra looks out a gunner's  'window', 10 year old Cameron (and dad) are standing under the bomb bay 'doors'. This old plane flies to contemporary air shows and is open for inspection. Perhaps and maybe, a hint of whimsy too...

Tina's Pic Story - From above

United Airlines 777 over the coastline between Groton and New London, Connecticut

Tina's Pic Story is always fun - we search for the weekly meme theme which she provides. This week it is 'from above'...it is another view from daughter Allegra who one day was arriving on a plane bound for JFK airport in New York City. Since that airport is very busy, often times the planes are in a holding pattern; this view is over Groton Connecticut and the Long Island Sound (about 80 miles/129 km east of JFK). The view from her 777 aircraft qualifies as being above it all (I think :)...see Tina's fun meme!

Tina's Pic Story - Atmospheric 'A'

Happy New Year to all! Tina's Pic Story is back in 2012 and all is the same - we provide the pictures, she thoughtfully provides the weekly theme, which this week is the letter 'A'
I may be taking a few liberties here, yet there are several A's around, that are obvious I would hope. If not, how about...

This is the wing of an MD-80 Airplane,
the airplane wing made of Aluminum,
the plane going through the Atmosphere,
and...
the picture was taken by daughter Allegra somewhere over North Carolina

So the letter 'A' is well represented - I would say :)
