Straight out of the Camera - SOOC takes us back a month to these pics taken for an article by Patti at a memorial service in Derby Connecticut for those firefighter and other emergency personnel killed in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial has an actual piece of steel from the epicenter of the fallen tower, flanked by 'towers' that remind us of the two 110-story buildings felled that fateful day. The steel is a poignant reminder from a bad day...never forget.

SOOC - Memorial Day memorials
SOOC - Straight Out of the Camera - takes me back a mere three hours today. Just after parking my minivan and prior to Ansonia's Memorial Day Parade, Patti and I went to the park located next to City Hall and viewed the memorials that reside there. These were constructed to honor Ansonia residents killed in service from WWI to the present. As this is not merely a three-day weekend to relax, it is centered around Memorial Day - and remembering those who have been lost...Monday, September 9, 2013
Ruby Tuesday Too - School Memorial
Ruby Tuesday Too returns for the week as do I. Today I go literally around the corner of our home to Emmett O'Brien Technical High School in Ansonia, and what we have seen for a week is hundreds of small American flags on the grounds of the school. It is part of a remembrance of the events on September 11 2001, a true day of evil and infamy...the school has not just the planted flags, but has also created a memorial garden as well. The sheetmetal shop created the metallic towers casting a slight shadow over a flower garden and more flags. On top is a closer view of the inscribed memorial to the victims, to the left is a full view of the towers, to the right, a mere snippet of the red-white-blue that fills the lawn. It is a small but mighty memorial that we never can forget all history that as affected our republic - that we as a people will endure and thrive through anything and everything...

Ruby Tuesday - Parade route rubies
Red, white & blue bunting
Old fire trucks...
Dr. Seuss' creation...
Remembering why the day exists
Ruby Tuesday 2 returns - I missed last Monday's post as I was at the Memorial Day parade in our neighboring small city of Derby CT. There are obviously lots of ruby red at a parade, and I captured a mix of those rubies...a bit eclectic in that they are not related to each other as subjects but in hue - always on the lookout for a favorite color at RT2!
