Shadow Shot Sunday - Urban eclectic

Rotary Tubas in a parade along Elizabeth Street...by Patti
Flowering plants alongside a chain-link fence on Third Street...by Patti
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back, and I offer a couple of items taken in Derby (CT) recently, and both vastly different items have shadows that are defined yet do not jump at us - however compel us to view the entire scene to find them. At least I think so...shadows that may or may not jump at us can be found at SSS2

Tina's Pic Story - 'P'

Parade, Derby CT, 2013-05-27
Pasta with Peppers, shrimp and tomatoes
The City of Pittsburgh, of course in the state of...Pennsylvania
Our Daughter's 1996 Plymouth Neon

Tina hosts the fun meme Pic Story, and its requirement is simple: She suggests the weekly theme, we match with a photo. This week, the letter 'P' has been chosen, and as I am unable to decide what best meets the theme, I used them all...see more of the letter 'P' at Tina's meme!

Ruby Tuesday - Parade route rubies

Red, white & blue bunting
Old fire trucks...

Dr. Seuss' creation...

Remembering why the day exists
Ruby Tuesday 2 returns - I missed last Monday's post as I was at the Memorial Day parade in our neighboring small city of Derby CT. There are obviously lots of ruby red at a parade, and I captured a mix of those rubies...a bit eclectic in that they are not related to each other as subjects but in hue - always on the lookout for a favorite color at RT2!

Whimsical Windows - Arts Center

Toby hosts the always fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where interesting items are noted. This recent view was taken in front of the Valley Center for the Arts in the small (13,000) city of Derby. This opened in 1924 as the Hotchkiss Hose firehouse - of course, as firetrucks grew in size and the population increased, a more modern building was needed.

Instead of letting a building sit idle, the municipality ultimately deeded it to the non-profit Valley Arts Council in 2008 for its endeavors and hosts art classesclasses with offices are leased to a variety local artists. Patti captured herself and the building with the fire company engraved above the once doors. A solid old building thus has been re-purposed for an excellent organization...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Playground memory

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 brings us to Ansonia's nearby Prendergast School to a playground dedication in the honor of Catherine Hubbard, one of the Sandy Hook (CT) School killed last December. This playground, one of many planned in the NJ-NY-CT tri-state region, was built by  The Sandy Ground Project as Patti has written and blogged about recently.

In addition to the playground, a memorial garden was assembled for those whose lives were taken. Some parents from Newtown were there, and their grief was palpable. Yet, smiles emerged as the program, dedication, ribbon cut as the assembled students climbed the ramp and slid down the slide on their way back to their classrooms.

Catherine's mother Jennifer spoke and her eloquent talk offered hope to all as seen in some of her excerpts:"What Catherine expects all of us is to be kind...she went to a school where the principal said that 'all you have to do is be kind'...as you play on your new playground, remember if there is something in your heart you want to say to someone - say it, because you don't know what tomorrow will bring" So true...we feel hopeful as through the kindness of so many, the dreams and hopes of these children continue to live on
