Patti has been looking at the sky lately, and in this change of season, she captured a beauty last week in our domicile of Ansonia. She calls it Sky on Fire - and it is! So I am happy to submit this for Straight out of the Camera - SOOC I am not a fan of the cold seasons we are entering, but the Autumnal beauty we see now looks so nice...

SOOC - Sky on Fire
Patti has been looking at the sky lately, and in this change of season, she captured a beauty last week in our domicile of Ansonia. She calls it Sky on Fire - and it is! So I am happy to submit this for Straight out of the Camera - SOOC I am not a fan of the cold seasons we are entering, but the Autumnal beauty we see now looks so nice...
Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadowy Waters
The brilliance of autumn is often in its colors - the foliage is of sharp earth tone hues, the sky and clouds equally dramatic. So for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I offer a view that Patti captured last week that showcases the season nicely. It is the nearby reservoir at Witek Park in Derby CT, a mere five minute drive from our home. Red, good and blue sit under the blue autumnal sky. I am not certain that all the foliage is still on the trees this week - so it is nice that Patti was there that day!

SOOC - Sunflower Farms
Autumn is a great season of color. So for SOOC - Straight out of the Camera, I am using photos taken today by the always lovely Patti. These were taken at Sunflower Farms, a mere 10 minutes away in often bucolic Orange CT. The temps are falling, the sky is an equally cold gray, so the bold and even fiery colors of Fall are much appreciated as the warm weather wanes until Spring...Sunday, January 4, 2015
Whimsical Windows - Final approach

I am back today to a great meme, Toby's Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors. Given my computer issues, I have missed a post or two (or more than I'd prefer :), and do believe that my MacMini needs a new hard drive as it barely works. A normal hard drive or a solid state one is what I need to consider and per usual, the $$ will dictate my choice. All that said, Patti is letting me use her computer when she is not working - thanks!
This view was taken from the right seat, by myself in my walking days, I believe in the Autumn of 1983. The plane was the ubiquitous high winged Cessna 172. This is over East Hartford Connecticut as the pilot was turning 180° to land on Runway 2 at Hartford's Brainard Field. Of interest to me that day, is the large office building, my then employer, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft (the corporate UTC logo directly below). The pic was snapped on my film SLR, a Pentax K1000. Lots of windows in the distance, my passenger window offering a unique look at the world...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Vineyard Views
For Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I look wistfully at autumnal views of sun and at least warm looking days as Winter approaches. Not that is has been as cold as it is in the US Midwest, but I just know it will be cold and snowy at some point, so memories (and fleece) will have to do! This is on the driveway to the Savino Vineyards, a mere two miles from our home in Woodbridge. Stone walls, vines about to shed their leaves, foliage and shadows offer a bucolic view of a lovely place on a beautiful day...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Weedy autumnal foliage

Red is one of the predominately Fall colors that indicate that colder days are soon to be upon us with leafless trees to look upon. So for Ruby Tuesday Too, we look at our side yard and see fiery red leaves - not on a grand maple or oak tree, but some weedy tree providing seriously ruby red leaves. Generally, I would like these weeds cleared out, but will be happy to wait until Spring...Sunday, September 28, 2014
Whimsical Windows - Harvest Fest
Toby's fun meme, Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, arrives a scant six days before the event of the autumnal season event of the year (in our domicile of Ansonia CT, at least :), that being the Harvest Festival. This is the main event of the Ansonia Cultural Commission, of which I am a member compiling the metrics and designing the program book - as of today, there are 101 vendors. We hope for sun...The windows and doors are of our city hall all dressed up for previous Harvest Festival, awash in mums and pumpkins. I, for one, am ready!

Whimsical Windows - Past industrial passed
Toby hosts the fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, and we keep our eyes open. Today is a prosaic view of our old and small industrial town of Ansonia Connecticut. This is the intersection of Olsen Drive at the Maple Street Bridge that carries traffic over the Naugatuck River to downtown. We see the backside of the Farrell Machinery plant in the foreground, looking as if it were built in the very early 1900s, the modern building in the middle of the frame the company headquarters from the early 1970s. The old industry is a much smaller part of life - the gray autumnal day seems appropriate here...

Ruby Tuesday Too - A hint o'ruby
![]() |
| Autumn this year is not so red - yet. Osbornedale State Park in Derby, CT |
Ruby Tuesday Too returns in this autumnal season. Although the peak foliage in Northern New England is nigh, we being closer to Long Island Sound means that there is a patchwork puzzle of color still in the trees. For us, some trees like the mulberry in our front yard is mostly leafless now, while summery greens are all over the place. So a hint of red leaves is in my entry, the ruby does stand out very boldly far more than its mere size might indicate. RT and nature combine well in this season of change...

Ruby Tuesday - Ruby leaves falling up

| An uphill climb. By Patti |
Ruby Tuesday Too returns in this autumnal season. Of course we think of red leaves falling from the trees down - not falling up as these leaves on the ivy are going uphill on this maple tree at the bottom of our back yard. An illusion or is gravity being defied here?

Ruby Tuesday 2 - End of the season (really)
Ruby Tuesday 2 reminds us that the season for native tomatoes is done in Southern New England. On top is the very last one of our homegrown fruit - on the bottom the local farmer's market tomatoes are getting smaller. A salad with a homemade honey mustard dressing is the perfect place to enjoy the last. Oh well the may say, but wait until next year - easier to say now but when we must endure the faraway grown things that merely look like a tomato...
