Yes, we look about at portals and other architectural items of interest for Toby's meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors. And often there may be a story (of sorts) behind these openings. Such as here, taken in July 1986, not too long after the marriage of myself and the always lovely Patti. 30 years in 2016, it has been wonderful all along. This is the portal to a lighthouse along the Mystic River in southeast Connecticut at the Mystic Seaport, a restored whaling ship village from the 1800s. The smiles back then are as genuine as they are today :)

Whimsical Windows - Saybrook Breakwater Light
It is again time for Toby's fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, and perhaps our subjects may be of much grandeur. Or a little - which this is. It is Connecticut's Saybrook breakwater light, sitting at the confluence of the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound and was opened in 1866 and is privately held today. I think we often look at lighthouses as being bigger and mightier, such as the famous Chatham Lighthouse on Cape Cod. However, any beacon of light that keeps ships in the channel and off the rocks is mighty indeed...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Seaside subtle shadowy celebration
The return of Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is here for the week. Patti and I went to a wedding on Wednesday at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven - the reception is in the carousel house at the city owned beach, and it was a very nice affair with the ceremony for the very attractive couple held on the sunny and sandy beach. Naturally, the many offered many a shadow opportunity, especially outside the 1916 building. These views include the Southwest Ledge Light at the entrance of New Haven Harbor - the cylindrical light was built in 1877 and is constructed of cast iron and shadow. The other views are of Long Island Sound water and a carnival going on in this urban oasis. Along with a fun and tasty reception and fireworks over the opposite West Haven shore. Celebrations and shadows - could anyone ask for more?

Whimsical Windows - Water's edge

| Cool home on the harbor in Barnstable, Cape Cod |
Toby hosts the fun meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors where we look for portals and architecture of note. This is not our home, however certainly one I would not mind residing on a summer holiday. This view was captured by one of our children as the took a Duck tour around Hyannis Harbor on Cape Cod. What appeals is its location on a quiet harbor, big windows with expansive water views and with the light house presumably offering a look toward Nantucket Sound. Undoubtedly out of our price range - at least we can all dream :)Sunday, September 23, 2012
Whimsical Windows - Cape Lighthouse
Toby's fun meme Whimsical Window / Delirious Doors is back, and I revert back a few years, The photo taken by family member Allegra, from the back seat of the family van on vacation. The place was on the sandbar known Cape Cod, the Chatham Lighthouse.
This is the third of the original Chatham structures, built in 1881. It is still a US Coast Guard approvedlight, and has been updated to 2.8 million candlepower aerobeacons. Despite the modern updates in brilliance, its shape and style are classic - still.
We actually took a vacation drive one day to look at lighthouses, foregoing the crowed beach for the afternoon - vacation and learning are a great summer combination....
