SOOC - Winter Moon over Derby

Winter is not a favorite season of mine as I am not a fan of the cold. Yet, there is an undeniable beauty of parts of it, such as a fresh white coating of snow and the cold but really blue winter sky. So for Straight out of the Camera - SOOC, I offer a recent pic that Patti took, a daytime moon over the (1889) Sterling Opera House in Neighboring town of Derby CT. Yes it is cold, but a look at space over a local landmark...

SOOC - Snowy Seasonal Sunrise

Snow this week as well as predicted snow for Monday means that we are in the throes of Winter, unable to escape the cold season of a four-season climate. Yet for SOOC - Straight Out of the Camera, we look for the artistry for the warmth of our souls at least. As we see in this lovely early morning sunrise captured by the always lovely Patti - on the day after the snowstorm from the front door. The pale yellow and blue streaks a hint of artistry as the day begins...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Computer vs. Shadows

I am happily back at Shadow Shot Sunday 2! Why my disappearance? I should have consultet our software developer son prior to downloading any app or software…

My #1 resolution for 2015: Ask your software developer son for advice on computer changes First!

I haven't been on my Mac recently...I thought it would be a good idea to turn on the File Vault to encrypt my hard drive. Bad move! The 2009 hard drive was on for five days on with no way to turn off the app. Our son Cameron, home for Christmas, found a way to reverse the process...

It has been Decrypting for five days so far, status bar moving really slow, but happily it is 89% complete. I an not a fan of typing on an iPad. But I cannot stay away from SSS, and Patti needs her computer for work. too. So we wait for the decrypting to end and use the tablet as needed…

For today's post, Patti captured a nice set of subtle shadows on Pickett's Pond at Osbornedale State Park in neighboring Derby. They are seagulls either flying, frolicking or floating on the pond, with reflections of said fowl. The day may be cold, but art and nature play well in any season - thanks M’lady!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Monochrome Winter

Out the front door on the Ansonia Uplands.
From the bedroom of our son now residing in Brooklyn, NYC...
Shadow Shot Sunday occurs after our latest snowfall, and with the sunshine we can see shadowy art forming before our eyes. So with cheap droid phone in hand, the snowy canvas was observed and captured for SSS2. To compensate for the quality, a B&W edit corrects some flaws while allowing the shadows to stand out a bit more. In the bottom one, the screen in the window even adds a kind of texture to the scene. Yes, it is much colder than normal around here today...merely a small price to pay for well-defined shadows!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Cold city hall

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns on a cold Friday in front of Ansonia City Hall. We visited the City Clerk's office to have a form notarized and as I parked along the curb in front and noticed the long winter shadows. Since that I had my phone with me, and despite the cold driving wind (and no gloves) I chose to capture the beautiful old building under the long southern sun...

The captures in are shadowy indeed, the stout and frigid breeze a small price to pay. I started the van via the remote start to have it warm inside upon my return...See more shadowy art at SSS2

Tina's Pic Story - 'J'

Jungle Cat Rigby
January in the Ansonia Uplands

Lemon Chicken made from lemon Juice

Tina's Pic Story is back! The rule is simple - we provide the photos to match her theme. which this week is the letter 'J'.

Animals, weather and food are the subjects, yet none of the subjects by name contain that letter...

I trust that my examples meet the challenge!

Tina's Pic Story - Icy

Tina offers us the always fun weekly photo meme Pic Story. Happily I am back this week, and have for my submittal for the letter 'I' which for me is Icy. The day in question is 27 January 2011, the morning after the forth snowstorm of 15 in (38 cm) since the preceding Christmas from each of those storms. In southern Connecticut, that is way too much snow in a four week period...but plenty of icy conditions for this month's letter challenge!

Although I prefer spring, summer and autumn to that winter...

Tina's Pic Story - Snowy evening mood

The fun meme Pic Story, hosted by Tina, is back for this week. In this, we take the pictures and she provides the weekly theme, which this week is evening mood.

As it is the winter season, we may look outside the door to our front and see the falling snow. Since it has not snowed much this warm winter, I have provided a capture from late 2010, on 26 December. The snow fall looks light, but did manage to accumulate 15 in/38 cm that evening…the streetlight is illuminating the tree, the front door light makes the snow flakes look like orbs.

It was warmer taking that evening mood from behind glass in the heated house!
