Toby hosts the fun architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors - we look for portals of interest. Those who follow my blogs know that I often refer to the past for inspiration as I have scanned maybe 1,000 or more old B&W prints since I inherited the JB Scotch box of photos when he passed away in 1981. And last week, my Aunt Terry shipped a box of old pictures to me for scanning and archiving, and these two jumped at me. Taken in 1947 (according to the license plate), it is in front of my grandparent's house at 1645 Oregon avenue in Steubenville, Ohio. My aunt is a well-dressed girl and her brother, my dad, dressed in a very stylish suit. The house is as I recall as a kid, and it remembered it up to 1981. It sits in a neighborhood that I assume, or at least hope, is still lined by these neat row houses are just as I remembered...
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 and reminiscing - these pair up well.
Today, son Cameron is taking the test for his driving lesson at at the DMV in Bridgeport (these days, the driver's license seems to occur at a later age than for me who just couldn't wait for mine at age 16 a few decades ago :).
Yet here, he looks as if he were ready to drive as he handles a set of keys at age 8...actually, on my keychain is a magnet that operated the magnetic door opener and wheelchair lift switches that were hidden behind the taillight lens.
He
looks rather self-assured and confident standing amid the shadows back then. Good luck Cam with those humorless DMV road testing personnel in mom's Hyundai...
Edit: Patti called at 10:46 EST (GMT-4:00) indicated that he passed :) Although the humorless DMV tester said that Patti needs new tires on the Hyundai :(
Ruby Tuesday Too allows us to continue our quest of finding a lot or a little red in any setting.
Here it is the soft pinkish color combined with the red sneakers to meet the theme with a hint of cute for emphasis :)
The year is 1996, the month July, daughter Allegra and two cousins at a family function. Cute may be an understatement here, but the now grown trio might prefer that term to adorable these days. The quest for rubies knows no limitations...
Toby's fun Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors is back, and a late family feline, Rigby, does like most cats - they project an aura of bravery...when safely behind two layer of glass that is. We humor them as this confidence is so often shaken when they her a knock on the door. So the windows here feature a cat that offers a disarming combination of strength, bravura and cute...
Straight out of the Camera - SOOC - is back and I revert to a print from 1992 and then nineteen-month old son Cameron. At a family event at the home of my sister, he decided to introduce himself to her cat Tiger, a very stand-offish being as I recall. Here the cat seems very accepting of the small person so perhaps I had guessed wrong about Tiger...or the cat liked small people better than big ones. The feline would not say, alas...
