Ruby Tuesday Too - The harvest yet to be...

The color red predominates the fun and colorful meme Ruby Tuesday Too. I am a bit ahead of myself here, these are from our tomato harvest in 2012 - but it is a sign of things to arrive in August. My old friend Mike and I spoke on the phone the other day, and he is to arrive not later that 23 May to assist us in planting tomato seedlings for 2014 - it has been a cool Spring and we hope planting in late May will avoid any killing frosts. We plant tomatoes, peppers and herbs in large storage containers that make it easier for me to harvest the sweet Romas and such from the wheelchair for that fabulous summer salad of tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Which I dream about all year :)

Whimsical Windows - The classic red barn

Toby hosts the architectural meme Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, and I revert to the past in a couple of ways. The structure is a classic red barn located in tony Easton CT - the shape, color and style have lasted and always look great. What is the other old thing? This was scanned from a print developed in October 1985, which like the barn itself, has held up quite well over the decades. Classic touches include the cupola perched upon the roof and split-rail fence - such a building endures nicely over many generations...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Easter past

For Shadow Shadow Sunday 2, I revert to Easter past and early Spring shadows, spanning the 20 years from 1948 to 1968. The earlier pics showcase my dad and his sister, Aunt Terry on Easter Sunday 1948 in front of their homestead at 1645 Oregon Avenue in Steubenville Ohio. They are dressed in their finery including hats and suits.

The newer photo is their dad and my namesake, Grandpa (aka: Ralph, the Sage of Steubenville) in front of our East Hartford home in 1968. All were dressed nicely in honor of the beauty of the day and the new life that Easter represents...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Convenient Cookery

Quick, convenient, tasty with a few reds...

Ruby Tuesday Too returns with its proviso of a little or a lot of red...and I am ready with a few hints of red, and delicious ones at that. We had little time to prepare dinner, so a quick look around the kitchen to make an easy meal. Starting with the freezer, and the frozen cooked shrimp (pink, a derivative of red :), frozen bell pepper strips (green, yellow and red). From the refrigerator, the chopped garlic in a jar. From the pantry for the rice, chicken broth and the ruby goodness of diced tomatoes. In short order, the rice and accoutrements were now a prepared meal. And unlike the others in our home, I added the crushed red pepper to add a hint of heat. And red wine appeared too. The chef purists may disagree with our approach - however it was red, tasty and convenient...

Whimsical Windows - Stairs, arches and doors

For Toby's fun architectural meme, Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors, I offer an interesting take on old yet stylish. The always lovely Patti captured an interesting trip to historic Essex Connecticut and stayed at the Griswold Inn and its 1824 building. Of course, with the wheelchair I wouldn't have been going neither up nor down the stairs :). Cool architecture, portal and inn at the bottom...
