Ruby Tuesday Too - If it's the seventies, it must be plaid...

Ruby Tuesday Too is back, and I return to a kinda familiar sartorial theme: Plaid! This view is familiar (see sidebar) - however I have recently found and scanned more prints much of the familiar wardrobe items. The year is 1975, the place either in Steubenville (OH) or Weirton (WV), and with my grandfather who purchased the jacket also decked out in plaid. Are we not quite a pair? Plaid (along with long-ish hair and fat ties) was the style of the day!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Sound shadows for a cause

The wheelchairs await riders as the storm clouds over Long Island Sound dissipate. Photo by Patti

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back, and shadowy last Sunday shots are featured today. Here is along the beach in West Haven CT at the Wheel-a-Thon for a disability rights non-profit, a non-competitive, awareness raising walk and/or wheelchair roll to raise college scholarships. Fun was had by all on all teams including ours in our team's pink shirts from last year's Griffin Hospital walk for Patti. Shadows were all over beautiful morning by Long Island Sound. Fun, awareness style and shadow work well together...

Ruby Tuesday Too - Wheel-a-Thon 2013

A nice morning after a very rainy night before. Photo by Patti
Along the course with a hint of red on the banner. By Patti
Ruby Tuesday Too is back as we scramble to find the favored hue of red. I found mine yesterday morning on the beach walkway in West haven CT at a fundraiser for our local disability rights non-profit, CDR, the Wheel-a-Thon. It is a walk and/or wheelchair roll; not competitive but to raise awareness about disabilities as well as funds for college scholarships. And for those who try to ambulate via wheelchair on the route  - even the strongest individual has to strain to push a heavy (40 lb/18 kg) hospital style wheelchair along broken pavement. But fun was had by all on a beautiful morning by Long Island Sound. Fun and awareness go hand in hand...see Patti's Newspaper Blog Post for more pics of the event...

Whimsical Windows - Bearly Seen

The Bear on the NY  Hutichinson River Parkway south
Henry, I-95 south, Pennsylvania/Delaware line
US 1 North from Maryland
In the shadows, viewing the magnificent George Washington Bridge

Toby hosts the fun meme Whimsical
Windows/Delirious Doors, and while architecture is the suual thrust, is it possible that a windshield/windscreen is also a window? I hope so as my entry includes such a view from my Ford E150 van on a family vacation in 2000. The whimsy includes a stuffed bear who was along for the ride - he sat the entire trip on the passenger side, his nubby tan 'fur' aglow. Henry is his name - and the bear never complained about my driving skills, thus making him the perfect passenger! Henry now occupies a cup holder near the back seat of my Dodge Grand Caravan - and still never complains about my driving!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadows in Time

Both style and elegance ruled in the 1930s...
Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is back as are more archived scans, another one from the files of a gentleman named Ralph from Steubenville Ohio, of course my namesake grandfather. I scanned this recently and time has allowed this print to give a softness to both scene and shadow in this late 1930s print. Try doing a current search for the Kent House and the choices are endless. So I'll conclude that this obviously was a fine restaurant near the northeast Ohio college town of Kent. I will further assume that Grandpa asked the maître d’hôtel, valet or other staff to take the photo as he seemed to want to chronicle to his contemporaries that he was actually there. And in those days, nobody wore a hat into an eatery as so many more do today - it was a bit classier in style then...
