Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Sentimental seashore shadows

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns near the official end of the heat and humidity of the northern Summer (and the lovely Patti is happy about that :) and as I am in the midst of scanning the family history over the eons, I like this as last look at the beach as Autumn lurks nearby. The year is 1965, the ebbing high tide of the Atlantic Ocean and the great New Jersey shore. The subject here is a cousin at age one who is being introduced to the surf with her mom, and the look of the child is one of a joy of discovery...the soft sand and salty surf are a revelation to the little one who loves  the new sensation...who wouldn't at any age?

Ruby Tuesday Too - School Memorial

Ruby Tuesday Too returns for the week as do I. Today I go literally around the corner of our home to Emmett O'Brien Technical High School in Ansonia, and what we have seen for a week is hundreds of small American flags on the grounds of the school. It is part of a remembrance of the events on September 11 2001, a true day of evil and infamy...the school has not just the planted flags, but has also created a memorial garden as well. The sheetmetal shop created the metallic towers casting a slight shadow over a flower garden and more flags. On top is a closer view of the inscribed memorial to the victims, to the left is a full view of the towers, to the right, a mere snippet of the red-white-blue that fills the lawn. It is a small but mighty memorial that we never can forget all history that as affected our republic - that we as a people will endure and thrive through anything and everything...

Whimsical Windows - Pigeon roost

Toby is the host of the always fun Whimsical Windows/Delirious Doors in which we look for and at interesting architectural gems. And I am back late owing to a sporadic internet signal which has turned progressively worse - Comcast will be here Tuesday hopefully fix it. Happily, right now the signal is okay. I'd hate to miss another week :)

My subject this week is from 1955 in , the the not-so-mythical steel-making city of Steubenville Ohio. This is a car-park apparatus referred to as Pigeon Hole Parking where a lift device moves horizontally and vertically to place your car in a discreet spot and could be easily retrieved when your shopping or errands were complete.

I believe this to be downtown on Fifth Street, south of Market Street. In the background is a steel mill alongside the Ohio River. I believe it belonged to Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, and now closed. When I was in college in the city on the 1970s, a lifetime for some, this mill was a very busy place then as in 1955. I located this picture earlier this year and like its industrial style...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Sumer ebbs in the Uplands...

Allegra and I leave long-ish shadows on the front yard...
Always love the oval shapes and shadows of the Neon...
Looking to the south from the north - seasonal shadows

I guess that it's no accident that the shadow hunter shows up in the sheetmetal :)

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 returns and since autumn is nigh since the unofficial end of Summer is Labor /Labour Day (actually it is 22 September), it seems as the sun has actually began its move to its rightful position to the South. So, the shadows now more pronounced from South-to-North in the front yard are where I looked for shadowy subjects. Including those that include daughter the shadowy Mulberry tree and Allegra's cherry red 1996 Plymouth Neon. I am noticing the sun making its long angular turn - a sign of the season and longer shadows as the sun retreats. It is still warm now...but for how long??

Shadow Shot Sunday - Shadows, vine ripened

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 occurs as our potted garden fruit is ripening nicely. However, about three weeks ago as the vegetables began their growth, Patti  captured shadows were falling over the potted treasures and seemed perfect for this post. The tomatoes today are red, fresh and tasty.

The spicy jalapeƱo, actually green, has not been harvested yet - time to purchase a lime to create a homemade salsa. Anyone bringing the chips?
